I love ice cream and especially in cones! What Laird Barron accomplishes, among so many other things in The Croning is a stitching together of tropes that call out from myth and fairy tale, from that odd blip of literary history where H.P. A number of them, as they turn menopausal, have been having croning ceremonies to honor this phase of their lives. Thus, in the opening phrases of The Croning , Barron begins this juxtaposition of the down to earth with what we might describe as out of this world. Every time I stop blaming internetially, the first thing I do is want to start blaming again. It still holds true for me today. This was a Croning Ceremony, designed to invoke Spiritual reflection, dignity and wisdom.
